VISION & MISSION

The Alpha Phi Omega (APO or APhiO) of Greater Los Angeles (APOGLA) is a California-registered non-profit corporation. Most of its membership hail from the different collegiate chapters in the Philippines who immigrated to the United States, built professional careers, and developed expertise in what they were trained to do. Now on its 44th year of service to the community, APOGLA continues to flourish and expand its service portfolio with its core principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service

APOGLA is the first and largest overseas alumni association (AA) of APO Philippines. We also co-founded the APO Philippines Alumni Council of North America (ACNA), bringing together over 30 geographically-dispersed AAs throughout the United States and Canada.

LEADERSHIP:

APOGLA develops young members to lead the organization to the future.  They have trainings through experience and programs like holding symposiums.

The TNB (Tribo in Bado) is the APOGLA newsletter.  It is the longest-running APO newsletter published every month from the early ‘80s to date.

SERVICE:

APOGLA is committed to the community, its organization, the adopted country, and its motherland, the Philippines.  Regular services are rendered thru Feeding America,
Tree people ( tree planting), LA Marathon,  Operation Gratitude, Feeding the Homeless, Bloodletting, Disaster Relief to the Philippines, to name a few.

Fellowship:

The General Membership Meeting is held every 3rd Saturday of the month, always followed by a fellowship.  There are also other annual events such as Ladies’
night, camping, Family Picnic, Thanksgiving, Induction of Officers, the December Affair, and New Year celebrations.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

Alpha Phi Omega extended the hand of service beyond the United States through the separate entity of Alpha Phi Omega – Philippines. APO-Phil is a self-governing organization based on the same Scouting principles of APO-USA. The two organizations formally discuss issues of mutual interest through the International Council of Alpha Phi Omega. The International Council of Alpha Phi Omega continues to lead expansion efforts. For example, APO-Philippines has now expanded into Australia and APOUSA has expanded into Canada. Canada Alpha Chapter was charted in December of 2015.

President’s Corner:

President’s Corner:

Thank you, for all the congratulations for my 3rd grandbaby, my first grandson. Ethan Walter Grude was born on Jan 21, 2022 , 2 and half weeks earlier as scheduled. Born healthy 7 lbs 2.6oz , 19.86" long. I’m lucky that I live right behind their house, I got to see Ethan every day. I can’t wait to play boy stuff with him.

We had a good productive first GMM. Except for some audio technical difficulties, we had an informative GMM discussion of the calendar of events for 2022 and its budget. We would have had a better attendance, but the corona virus had other plans and mutated an omicron variant that triggered another peak of cases. Hopefully that was last of the mutation, and we live back to normal.

Especial thanks to Bro. Past National President Mel Adriano for sending us the Covid 19 rapid test kits. We received them right in time for the GMM. We tested all attendees and fortunately everyone tested negative.

I would like to thank you  Bro. Gerard and Sis. Emma for taking charge of the food. Also thank you to all who donated additional food.  And much the appreciated executive committee for setting up and making sure that venue was sanitized and safe for all attendees.

Our Vice President started giving away his presents to our membership. All paid attendees received a GLA shirt. Coming soon will be a jacket for each paid member who has attended 2 service projects and 2 GMMs or GLA fellowships.  Sis. Liza Valera also donated dry fit collared shirt to all officers. Thanks Bro. VP Roland and Sis Liza.

We collected used clothing for LA’s homeless and also for victims of Typhoon Odette in Bohol. Five jumbo boxes are already being shipped to Bohol care of APO GLA’s Bro. Lino Chatto.

We hope we have a better turn out on our next meeting. We look forward to see our brothers and sisters way east for Greater Los Angeles, Inland Empire to Palm Springs area.

We’ll see you at our 2nd GMM on Feb 19, 2022, at Bro. Ogie Jaranilla’s place in Moreno Valley.
